Get set, go

My own creative inspiration has to begin somewhere, so here goes….

I’m very intrigued by Where Women Create,

It’s a grand concept, paired with curiosity about what inspires the creative endeavors we all are seeking.  This book by Jo Packham, has provided me with a boost.  My own sewing room, craft nook, laboratory (my son calls it) is in need of some improvements.

It’s functional, quiet, warm and cozy, it is a place of a collection of treasures, bits of nostalgia, odds and ends of craft supplies that I may or may not ever use.  My old beloved Elna, a server, ironing board, bulletin board, cabinets and shelves, a cuckoo clock shell, my Dads sailing trophy tray, lots of fabrics, embroidery floss, wool felts, interfacing, buttons and thread.   These are just a few of the many catagories I have surrounded myself with.  It’s my “real” self.  It’s in my basement of my old house that I’ve lived in and loved for more than 30 years.

I can do laundry, sew, even spray paint.  There’s a tv down there.  It’s an area concept most “makers” could create in.  A unique multitasking, utilitarian space.  If I ever designed a home, this kind of space would be mandatory.  Maybe a mud room, garden shed space too.

I’m a maker.  I’ve always enjoyed “making” things.  My oldest and dearest friend loves to recall and tease me about my platform sandals.  I purchased 3 or four pairs of those cheap rubber things, you could find at a discount store.  Took them apart and glued the 4 footbed’s together to form a platform.  Colorful, stylish, unique I thought.

Until my super unique platform sandals slipped off my bike pedal…big crash, lots of skinned elbows and knees.  The damage to the platforms irreparable.  Sigh.

I never attempted them again.  My mistake.  I could have invented Etsy.  Cut to many years later and I’m still making things.  Born to a Mom who was a maker, from her Mom a maker…you get my drift.

What am I currently making?  I’m on the cusp of a few projects, but I’m going to redo my space.

Come along with me, I’m happy to share another “ make”
